Dutch Society for the Replacement of Animal Testing (Stichting Proefdiervrij)
The Dutch Society for the Replacement of Animal Testing (Stichting Proefdiervrij) is dedicated to replacing animal testing with animal-free innovation. It aims to shape and advance the transition to a world without animal testing. Within the TPI programme, the society deploys its experience, network and unique position as an animal welfare organisation.
From ‘helpathons’ to human measurement models
The Dutch Society for the Replacement of Animal Testing plays a role in various initiatives within the TPI programme:
- Helpathons: in which teams come up with creative solutions to a central question from someone who wants to conduct research without animal testing;
- Virtual Human Platform for Safety Assessment (VHP4Safety): as a co-funder and communicator within and about the project;
- Human Measurement Models: as a co-funder of eight projects from the subsidy rounds.
The Dutch Society for the Replacement of Animal Testing is part of the TPI programme’s core group and transition team.
Guard dog within the TPI programme
The foundation’s contribution differs per project. It sees itself as a guard dog within the TPI programme by ensuring that the interests of laboratory animals are prioritised. The foundation communicates with a broad public on animal-free science and represents a large group of donors. In this way, it attracts a large group of people to the TPI programme’s mission and vision.
A future free from animal testing
The Dutch Society for the Replacement of Animal Testing believes in a future free from animal testing. It finances groundbreaking research and informs the public, scientists and students about animal-free innovation. It works together with scientists, government and businesses and, in doing so, acts as a frontrunner. It signals, inspires and connects.
